S02 E36: The 'Burbs

This week on Awkward Silences, we tackle the suburbs by way of The Arcade Fire's new album of that name. We also manage to tie in discussions on live concerts, Glee, growing up, the Tea Party movement, World Town Planning Day and Nazis. With a line up like that, who needs jokes in the introduction?

Also, apologies to Andrew Morton. We finished recording the episode approximately twenty minutes before he both commented on last week's show and added himself as a follower. Thanks Andrew!

Yes, Urban planning is quite the rage. And after this episode, Suburban Planning will become equally as popular.

Tip of the hat for the correct use of the word, "asymptote". It caught all the listeners completely off guard.

As for the Tea Party, I feel there are many within it that believe their whole lifestyle is being threatened. They are circling the wagons.

Really enjoyed the Arcade Fire video and song through the link you provided. I wondered where that video was filmed; Arnprior?
I thought for sure that you would also mention their interactive video: "Wilderness Downtown". Amazing stuff.

As for a theme for 2011, may I suggest Danny's Chant by Fleetwood Mac. Imagine this...

Guitar riff: "Good evening and welcome"
Guitar riff: "to Awkward Silences Radio"
Guitar riff: "Alyssa Golden"
Guitar riff: "and Tyler Wood".

Then the two of you can hum along at the 57 second mark. Awesome. It will be complete if you can entice James Earl Jones to be the narrator.

Ciao.
