S03 E10: He Said, She Said

Why doesn't anyone play Six Degrees from Elizabeth Perkins?

Tyler: Given the theme of this episode, we've split the requisite intro paragraph into two parts: one for me, the other for Alissa. You see, this week we cover duets about the highs and lows of love, about the Mars/Venus divide between the sexes. It's quite clever, if I do say so myself. Enjoy!

Alissa: Since Alissa usually lets me do the writing here, I'm just going to fill this in with a few casual insults directed towards my co-host (she stinks and has poor taste in contemporary art). Let's see how long it takes for her to notice and rectify the situation. [Ed. - Very clever Tyler. Although I'm surprised you didn't just do the entire show yourself and imitate my voice/laugh in response you your long-winded stories. ZING!]

True Story about the loss of my virginity: When he was driving me home "paradise by the dashboard light" played. I commented "how appropriate". He didn't get it.

Missed a major pop culture reference after taking your virginity? Fail.

To be fair, I had never heard the song until this episode.

Not that I'm saying I slept with Melyssa... just that some people aren't intimately familiar with the 'Loaf.

What wonderful songs; many I had not heard in ages. Meat Loaf was extremely popular when I was an undergrad.

Thanks for airing the Public Service Announcement! We need to get the message out there. Sadly, a toddler drowned in a residential swimming pool last weekend in Ancaster.

I do not mind advertising to help subsidize public programs that would not be feasible to operate otherwise. The question is how "loud" the advertiser's message is allowed to be.

As for privatization of services like garbage collection, I am skeptical over what will happen in the medium and long terms. Initially the company will try to appease workers and the city be maintaining a reasonable calibre of service. However, the quest for larger profits usually drives companies to cut services and personnel over time. This type of scenario has unfolded all too often in other domains when government agencies have been privatized. Etobicoke will be a good test.

Looking back I still think LOST was a great series. The plot was intriguing and the characters were
interesting. Lots of action each week. I believe perhaps there was perhaps too much revealed at the end, since the audience seemed to demand closure from the production crew. Maybe I little mystery at the end would have been true to the show over its run.

Best of luck to Alissa with her new job. Sounds like fun!

I think Oprah didn't want to give away control of her final episodes but reluctantly agreed that her staff could surprise her near the end, except for the VERY last episode. So that might explain why Oprah was acting surprised with her own show, something that seemed odd unless you knew about this.

Speaking of shows.. I love yours. Keep it up!
