S03 E12: Domo in the City

As summer bursts onto the scene, people are packing their bags and hitting the road. Some leave the city to head to the country; others do the opposite; others still stay put and rediscover the place they call home. As part of a summertime arc, this week's episode focuses on songs about the city. Given our backgrounds, you can imagine how hard it was to collect the music... well, to cut down the list. Enjoy!

This is Domo. Lover of cities. Real class act.

Fun fact: Alissa is one of seventeen people on
earth who remembers this show. (Two of
the five pictured can't even claim that.

The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer in the City
The Jam - In the City

Stevie Wonder - Living for the City
David Bowie - Suffragette City

The Bananas - Gentrification for Dummies
Arcade Fire - City with No Children

The Stampeders - Sweet City Woman

Guns N' Roses - Paradise City (Mike, this one's for you.)

Thanks for the shout out! I always felt that song was written for me and you guys just proved it!

I found this on the interwebs and thought you guys might enjoy:

Apparently the track was made from sounds pulled from the movie. Pretty cool. I know it should at least tickle Ms. Golden and massage Mr. Wood.

"Rockin' in the Suburbs" by Ben Folds.
"Living in the Country" by Arlo Guthrie.

Your discussions on city living and planning in this week's episode were insightful. City councillors and classroom students would benefit by listening! Bravo.

As for Walmart in urban locations, I sit on the fence. While I do not appreciate their predatory tactics, I also like open markets for consumers. Tough call.

You've stumped me. What show are those people from?

If my ITunes counter is correct, the next episode will mark the 100th edition of Awkward Silences Radio. Would it not be amazing to have it co-incide with the first international show aired on tape from Paris and Hamilton! Congratulations!
