S04 E02: Meaty

This week on Awkward Silences, Tyler and I discuss heritage policy and procedure at the municipal level, new ammunition illustrating the environmental value of building reuse, manufacturing plants in China, and, last but not least, Ryan Gosling memes. If only there were a meme combining our (my) love of Ryan and heritage preservation...

And while we're at it...

Lovely job looping the intro music Tyler!

P.S. I was ridiculed for pronouncing meme as "mem-may" last night over drinks. Apparently it is pronounced meem, with a long "e".

Tyler, you failed me.

Hmm... well, I'll refer you to this source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejSRqO74Lik&feature=fvwrel

Seriously though, I know I'm wrong on this but I don't think I'll stop pronouncing it. It's a word a guy made up; he also decided on the pronunciation. I figure I can also make such arbitrary decisions.

Dear Hosts of ASR:

With respect to the urban poultry issue in Hamilton, it must be stated that it all sounds extremely glamorous. In fact, with Darin's help we'll get that chicken!

After taking in the first movie in the trilogy, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", I was so keen to see episodes 2 and 3. These were the Swedish originals with English subtitles. All three were outstanding - each one kept me on the edge of my seat. Hopefully the Hollywood versions do the stories justice.

Great music selection!

As for heritage buildings, it must be challenging to keep track of all the old edifices that are still standing. Nevertheless, with so much interest in the issue of historical preservation, one would like to think that most of the buildings would have been identified by now. It is sad to hear that one can be torn down, with everyone standing around scratching their heads afterward, "How did that happen?".

Thanks!!

Brutus

Theme: Ask your friends to name their favourite song of all time. This is not easy! So many to choose from. So many in need of more cow bell.
Your show could have a dedication to each friend that suggests the song of their choice.

Just a thought.

What to pick?

Trivia/Segue of the week:

What do the two primary actors in the movie Notebook (i.e., Rachael MacAdam and Ryan Gosling) have in common with Tyler's aunts, Lisa and Diana. All four were born in St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario. (1978, 1980, 1963, 1975 respectively.)

ppps. Sorry for the typo: last date should be 1965.
